Representing the St. Louis Cardinals, generally speaking, may not offer the same level of enjoyment compared to being part of the New York Mets. The first team is struggling to remain over .500, whereas the latter still aims for a World Series title. Therefore, in time, Ryan Helsley is expected to be happy about the trade that moved him from St. Louis to New York.
However, on Monday, Helsley discovered first-hand the single major drawback of no longer being part of the Cardinals… he now lacks the potential top defensive third baseman in Nolan Arenado covering him. Helsley entered the 10th inning during the Mets’ game against the Cleveland Guardians, and after intentionally walking José RamÃrez to try setting up a double play, Helsley faced a bunt grounder… which was quickly tossed to center field by third baseman Brett Baty. Baty had been in the game as a substitute for Starling Marte, who himself had come in as a replacement for Ronny Mauricio.

Helsley allowed two runs during the match, but both were not attributable to him (and they weren’t considered earned either). He induced two groundouts, one fly ball, and a popup from the Guardians' hitters, and likely would have gotten out of the inning without allowing the phantom runner on second to cross home.
Alternatively, the defensive error leads to his defeat. That hurts.

Trailing 5-0, the Mets made a strong comeback to equal the score at 5-5. Pete Alonso, having gone 4-for-4 so far, came to bat with the bases full and one out in the bottom of the ninth inning when the game was deadlocked at 5. He fanned, followed by Brandon Nimmo grounding out, which pushed the contest into extra innings.
To be honest, experiences like these are much more difficult than simply losing 5-0. There's nothing embarrassing about being defeated occasionally! It can be annoying, but it isn't as painful as... whatever just happened.
