Increasing worries and demands for explanations are emerging regarding conditions at the biggest ICE detention center in the northeastern region.
It’s not far away.
The Moshannon Valley Processing Center is a private establishment situated in Clearfield County. It is approximately three hours away from Pittsburgh.
It contains almost two thousand prisoners.
A few of them have passed away due to self-harm recently.
This has resulted in demonstrations—including one last weekend.
Currently, local Congresswoman Summer Lee attempted to go to the facility.
She claims she stood in the parking area for sixty minutes prior to being refused entry.
We're simply here today to check if we can manage to gain entry. They had us waiting—first off—for more than an hour,
Lee, part of the House Oversight Committee, states that Congress plays a responsibility in maintaining secure and compassionate environments within the facility.
At this moment, she has many questions but very few solutions:
"From where do individuals originate, whether they've been transferred between detention facilities, what their typical duration of stay is, and whether they've obtained medical care," Lee stated.
Lee states she isn't certain about the number of individuals from Western Pennsylvania who are currently held at the facility.
The demonstrations follow the suicide death of a 32-year-old man—Chaofeng Ge, also known as Chow Feng Ji from China—who was detained at the facility.
He is the 12th individual to pass away while under ICE detention this year ... the initial death recorded in ICE custody at Moshannon Valley during 2025.
The ICE states that Moshannon Valley has met or surpassed all requirements for this type of facility.
A representative made an announcement in a statement.
ICE places great importance on the safety and security of individuals held in our immigration detention facilities.
A human rights advocate named Yannick Gill states that numerous individuals are being held captive, leaving their families without information.
"When people are taken from the roads, from the streets, and from their homes... one issue is that there isn't a straightforward explanation about where they're being taken," Gill stated.
We contacted ICE for a comment regarding Congresswoman Lee's trip to Moshannon Valley.
A representative stated that they are in the process of preparing a reply.
