YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year. Its initial performance was aired on WKBN radio, which was also in its inaugural year.

During the weekend, members of the orchestra began wondering whether they would celebrate their 100th anniversary. Typically, at this point, the symphony's performance calendar should have been announced, but that has not happened yet this year.

Public worries regarding the approaching concert season were revealed on Saturday morning through a brief social media announcement from the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra Musicians.

The orchestra's members have two main worries.

Initially, the 2025-26 performance calendar has yet to be announced, and according to their agreement, the timetable needs to be made public by August 1st.

Second, the union agreement ends on August 31, and as stated in the social media update, there has been no reply from the Symphony Society's Board regarding initiating discussions.

"The board of directors for the Youngstown Symphony Society has consistently let us down over and over. They've shown they're focused solely on maintaining the DeYor Performing Arts Center and not at all on the top-tier musicians who perform on the Power Auditorium stage," the statement read.

The First News outlet sought an interview with a musician, but was informed that the social media announcement was the sole statement available for now.

On Monday night, the Youngstown Symphony Society released a statement saying, "The Youngstown Symphony Society and the Henry H. Stambaugh Auditorium Association are currently discussing how to keep the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra (YSO) running. A notice about the 2025/2026 YSO season and the conductor role will be shared once an arrangement is finalized.
