Nashville Middle Schoolers Face Investigation Over Threatening Gun-Related Texts

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Update: The Metro Nashville Police Department has arrested a second middle school student suspected of being part of a group chat where alarming and/or menacing texts were sent.

MNPD states that a second eighth-grader from Meigs Middle School sent troubling messages within the same text conversation as the first student who was previously charged on Monday.

A second 13-year-old is accused of sending an image showing a firearm and warning they would attack another student's school and residence.

"The student faced charges in juvenile court for falsely reporting and threatening mass violence," said MNPD.

Earlier: A middle school student has been charged by the Metro Nashville Police Department following the discovery of alarming text messages.

A seventh-grade student from Meigs Middle School faced charges related to making a false report after he reportedly shared an image of a shotgun along with the message "perfect for school shooters" to fellow students.

The information was shared with school officials, who subsequently reached out to MNPD.

A 13-year-old boy was recognized and taken into custody on Sunday night. He has faced charges of making misleading statements.

"Schools and organizations face serious consequences from the MNPD. Anyone found guilty will be brought to justice," stated the MNPD.
