PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Back-to-school time has arrived, and this applies to college students as well. At Gulf Coast State College, multiple initiatives are growing to provide enhanced assistance for those attending classes on campus.

Several initiatives are employed by GCSC to draw in local students. The Gulf Coast Guarantee is a financial aid opportunity open to high school seniors residing in Bay, Gulf, and Franklin counties, offering eligible students an automatic $700 grant for both the following fall and spring semesters upon completing their studies.

In order to secure the scholarship, recent high school graduates must enroll during the same year prior to the start of the autumn term.

"There has been a yearly rise, of course; we have managed through many challenges over the past five years, including the hurricane and the pandemic. Our student enrollment is increasing at present. We can confirm that our figures are higher than they were during this period last year, and students continue to sign up. You can observe them in the lobby right now," stated Marissa Hudson, the Executive Director for Enrollment Management.

The hospitality program at GCSC is expanding as well. According to school administrators, they have recently introduced an internship opportunity and a scholarship aimed at both new high school graduates and individuals returning to education for their studies.

"The internship program is just one part of it, along with the scholarships. We aim to provide students with the resources necessary to succeed in hospitality management. One of the most important abilities they develop is applying what they learn in class," stated Paul Bonnette, the endowed chair for Hilton Hospitality Management and Tourism.

The final date to register as a new student or adjust your existing course schedule is August 22nd.
