FEMA has finalized its evaluation of flooding impacts in Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Washington counties, following the arrival of inspection teams in southeastern Wisconsin several days prior.
Officials with Wisconsin Emergency Management are currently gathering federal information, along with updates from city and county authorities, to submit to Governor Tony Evers. This will allow him to formally request President Donald Trump to recognize a federal emergency.
That proposal from the governor might arrive as early as this week.
Estimating a timeframe for this is quite challenging," stated Greg Engle, an administrator with Wisconsin Emergency Management, earlier this week. "We are moving quickly to gather all necessary details so we can present our recommendations to the governor and eventually expect to submit a request for a federal disaster designation. However, the schedule will depend on FEMA and how things progress within the administration.
The ultimate choice rests with Trump.
"No schedule has been set," Nicole Wilson, A representative from FEMA stated last week I'm unable to provide a schedule since our presence here depends on how long the state requires us to carry out these evaluations. After the evaluations conclude, the information is transferred to the state, and then the governor decides what comes next. I’m not sure how much time the governor will require for this decision. Once he reaches a conclusion, FEMA will submit a proposal and suggestion to the president. As for how quickly the president acts, I definitely can’t predict that.
