COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKRC) - A judge has set an extra $10,000 bail for ex-Cincinnati Bengals player Kirk Barton, who is being charged in connection with a deadly accident.

Barton, who once led Ohio State University as team captain, went to court on Monday after being charged with causing the death of 24-year-old Ethan Perry in a car accident last June.

Officials claim that Barton was intoxicated and moving in the incorrect direction on U.S. Route 33 when he crashed into Perry's car. Barton's lawyer mentioned that Barton expresses significant regret about the accident, even though he continues to assert that the collision wasn't his responsibility.

"It would take someone with the coldest of hearts to not feel overwhelmed by guilt and sadness, regardless of who is responsible," stated a lawyer.

No details were available regarding when Barton was anticipated to appear in court again.
