Bleecker Street announced on Tuesday that it has obtained the U.S. theater distribution rights for Musk a featured documentary exploring Elon Musk, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Alex Gibney.
The collaboration brings together the distributor with HBO Documentary Films and Universal Pictures Content Group, and will result in Bleecker Street releasing the movie prior to its debut on HBO Max.
No publication dates have been determined as of now for Musk on which Gibney, who has previously examined prominent individuals in his career such as Julian Assange, Elizabeth Holmes from Theranos, and Jack Abramoff, directs his attention toward one of the globe's most powerful personalities, with a narrative unfolding as it happens.
Few biographical portraits, aside from well-known politicians, have focused on someone who stands at such a pivotal point within our society as Elon Musk," stated Kent Sanderson, CEO of Bleecker Street. "However, there isn’t another filmmaker I can think of who would be able to present this story to viewers with greater clarity, boldness, and sense of importance than Alex Gibney.
Tyler DiNapoli and Myles Bender from Bleecker have previously collaborated with Gibney on the 2013 documentary about Assange. We Steal Secrets . Other works of Gibney include the film that won an Academy Award Cab to the Darkness Side and Enron: The Brightest Minds in the Building .
Musk Produced by Gibney, Jessie Deeter, and Erin Edeiken of Jigsaw Productions; Zhang Xin and Joey Marra of Closer Media; Nick Shumaker and Jessica Grimshaw of Anonymous Content; and Dana O'Keefe of Double Agent. The executive producers are Yariv Milchan and Natalie Lehmann from New Regency; Richard Perello from Jigsaw; William Horberg from Closer Media; David Levine from Anonymous Content; and Sanderson and Miranda King from Bleecker Street.
HBO Documentary Films had earlier secured exclusive North American streaming and television rights. Black Bear is managing global distribution and finalized an international agreement with UPCG.
