Dansby Swanson's Walk-Off RBI Overturned on Baseline Mistake

Senin, 04 Agustus 2025, Agustus 04, 2025

Chicago Cubs' shortstop Dansby Swanson scored a run-scoring groundout during Monday night's game against the Cincinnati Reds... but then it wasn't counted.

Trailing 3-2 with a player on third and two outs, Swanson stepped up to bat against Red reliever Graham Ashcraft. With the count at three balls and two strikes, he hit a ground ball toward the left side of the field. Third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes retrieved the ball and tossed it to first, but it wasn’t quick enough to prevent Willi Castro from scoring. However, after a replay review, it was confirmed that Swanson had completely missed first base. He was ruled out, the run was nullified, and Cincinnati kept their advantage.

Check out this incident here:

Swanson's mistake proved to be very expensive. The team failed to score any more runs for the remainder of the match, allowing the Reds to secure a 3-2 victory—which reduced Chicago's advantage at the top of the National League wild card standings.

It will take some time for the two-time All-Star to move past this moment.
