Cop Shoots Romaine Marszalek, Charges in Lemoyne: Full Affidavit Revealed

On Monday, August 25, authorities reported that a woman was shot by police officers following an incident where she appeared to be holding what seemed to be a genuine firearm on a Lemoyne bridge.

West Shore Regional Police Department officers responded to the I-83 overpass at Lowther Street after receiving calls about someone "acting erratically" shortly before 6:45 p.m., as stated in an affidavit submitted by Pennsylvania State Police.

When they arrived, police met Romaine Elisabeth Marszalek, 23, from New Cumberland, who was on the bridge walkway shouting. The officers tried to talk to her, but according to reports, she reportedly stepped back, drew what looked like a firearm from her belt, and aimed it at the officers while screaming "I have a gun," as mentioned in the sworn statement.

Thinking the weapon was genuine, both police officers shot at Marszalek, hitting her. She was transported to a nearby hospital for care. None of the officers sustained injuries.

Later, authorities confirmed the firearm was a Colt M45 CQBP Blowback .177 BB pistol. It had a black frame and a tan slide, and looked very similar to a Colt 1911 revolver, as stated in the sworn statement.

Marszalek faced two charges of Felony Aggravated Assault - Instilling Fear of Immediate Severe Physical Harm to Specific People, both related to claims that he caused each officer to fear being shot.

The initial court appearance took place before Judge Elizabeth Beckley at 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26. Marszalek was sent to Cumberland County Prison with a $100,000 bond, which she could not afford to pay.

The initial court appearance is set for Judge Beckley on Thursday, September 4th at 10:45 a.m.
