BEIJING () - Senior Chinese representative Li Chenggang will travel to Washington this week for discussions with the United States, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal published on Monday.

According to the report, which cited individuals knowledgeable about the situation, Li Chenggang, who serves as a key advisor to Beijing's chief negotiator He Lifeng, is scheduled to meet with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and high-ranking officials from the Department of the Treasury later this week.

was unable to confirm the report right away, which also mentioned that Li will meet with members of the U.S. business sector.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the White House did not promptly reply to inquiries seeking their response regarding the report.

Li's journey will come after three previous trade discussions between the globe's top two economic powers since May — held in Geneva, London, and previously this month in Stockholm.

Li is set to address soybean acquisitions and advocate for easing U.S. regulations on tech exports to China, according to the Wall Street Journal.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Beijing may also push for the removal of the 20% fentanyl-associated tariffs imposed by the Trump administration during discussions about soybean purchases and Boeing aircraft.

Two weeks back, the United States and China prolonged a temporary agreement on tariffs for an additional 90 days, preventing the imposition of extremely high duty rates on their respective products, which could have led to nearly complete restrictions on trade between them.

The agreement continues with a 30% U.S. tax on goods from China, along with a 10% duty imposed by China on products coming from the United States.
