Browns Add to QB Confusion with Former Rival Signing

Senin, 04 Agustus 2025, Agustus 04, 2025

Cleveland Browns supporters believed they had finally received clear information about which player would be starting at quarterback for the team during Week 1. On Monday afternoon, the first official position hierarchy for the 2025-26 campaign was published, showing experienced quarterback Joe Flacco as the starter. Kenny Pickett was named as the second-stringer, with rookie players Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders following him.

Nevertheless, they will not be the sole players on the Browns' team when the preseason begins. According to Adam Schefter from ESPN, Cleveland is expected to sign Tyler "Snoop" Huntley and include him in the competition.

Huntley, who was with the Browns during parts of the 2024 season, seems to serve as a backup option for the team since Pickett, Gabriel, and Sanders are each dealing with different injuries. It remains uncertain whether the 27-year-old will play at all when the team faces the Carolina Panthers in their opening preseason game.

The Browns' signing of Tyler Huntley adds another quarterback to an already crowded position group.

Huntley participated in five matches with the Miami Dolphins during the previous season when starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was unavailable, accumulating 829 yards gained through passes, three scoring plays, and three turnovers.

If he ends up needing to take over for Cleveland when Week 1 arrives, it might be challenging for Browns supporters to see two ex-Ravens players sitting on the bench. Both Flacco and Huntley had considerable stints with Baltimore.

Huntley will become the sixth quarterback the Browns are considering before the season begins. While some might have overlooked the fact that Deshaun Watson is still on the team and rehabbing from an Achilles injury, there has been little information about whether he will be prepared to begin the season.

Replacing starting quarterbacks due to unforeseen injuries is precisely where Huntley excels. In addition to filling in for Tagovailoa last season, he also took over for Lamar Jackson in 2022 when the top quarterback sustained a knee injury. He started in the playoffs against the Cincinnati Bengals, passing for 226 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the 24-17 Wild Card round defeat.
