BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC) - The Bettendorf City Council gave approval for the construction of a walkway close to the TBK Bank Sports Complex during their meeting on Monday evening.
City council members collectively decided to advance the proposals at an emergency session.
The "Gateway Bridge," which has been under construction since late 2023, will link the TBK Sports Complex with the Iron Tee.
This follows when city authorities found out about the bridge being $870,000 over budget The bridge was initially projected to cost $11.7 million, yet city authorities stated that the expense has risen to $14.5 million.
Local officials stated that maintaining safety and promoting growth in the region is highly beneficial.
And most importantly, it will be capable of moving through all the people outside, back and forth between events and the construction," said Decker Ploehn, the city administrator from Bettendorf. "It's simply going to be an excellent improvement overall.
However, additional initiatives will be put on hold as the bridge project has exceeded its financial limits, according to city officials. These efforts consist of:
- A development concerning Kimberly Road An initiative related to Kimberly Road A venture focused on Kimberly Road A study about Kimberly Road Work being done on Kimberly Road Efforts centered around Kimberly Road A plan involving Kimberly Road Activities taking place on Kimberly Road Research pertaining to Kimberly Road The undertaking of Kimberly Road projects
- Eliminating a bench and illumination elements from the bridge development Taking out a seating area and light fixtures from the bridge initiative Discontinuing the installation of a bench and lighting components in the bridge plan Deleting a resting spot and lighting facilities from the bridge construction Canceling the inclusion of a bench and lighting features in the bridge project Removing a seat and illumination aspects from the bridge improvement work Scrapping the addition of a bench and lights in the bridge design Phasing out a bench and lighting equipment from the bridge project Abandoning the incorporation of a bench and lighting systems into the bridge scheme Discarding a bench and lighting installations from the bridge endeavor
Ploehn mentioned that the city plans to revisit those initiatives later.
The city is also reducing involvement in a project with the Iowa Department of Transportation along I-80 and Middle Road. The municipality is scaling down an initiative involving the Iowa Department of Transportation concerning I-80 and Middle Road.
