On July 17, which marks World Emoji Day, Stanford University's Green Library is showcasing artwork inspired by emojis from Yiying Lu.
"I really like this one because it's the girl from the pearl earring painting but with even more pearls," said Lu about her recreation of the "Girl with a Pearl Earring" artwork. In Lu's interpretation, the woman holds a boba milk tea in an emoji style.
Lu is the individual behind the creation of the boba milk tea emoji found on your emoji keypad. In addition, she designed the dumpling, chopsticks, fortune cookie, takeout container, and peacock emojis.
"I got an invitation to attend a dumpling gathering, and I noticed there wasn't a dumpling emoji on my phone," said Lu.
That occurred in 2015.
Ever since, Lu has established Emojination a non-profit organization focused on promoting representative emojis.
To Lu, emojis go beyond being merely a tiny digital picture.
By incorporating these highly popular drink and snack items into the keyboard, it's also enhancing what's currently available, as well as highlighting variety," said Lu. "In essence, it's a platform designed to allow individuals to share their own suggestions.
The following stage includes the Unicode Consortium a non-profit organization that establishes standards for the use and creation of software and services, including emojis.
"Our team puts in significant effort to ensure they aren’t temporary, are enduring, and hold broad significance," said Jennifer Daniel, head of the emoji working group. This autumn, nine new emojis will debut, featuring a landslide.
