NASA is preparing to send two satellites into space for research on solar energy, with a professor from the University of Iowa overseeing the project.
A UI physicist named David Miles is leading the TRACERS project, which aims to study how solar energy affects Earth's magnetosphere.
The spacecraft will be launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket departing from California later this month.
The spacecraft will travel together above Earth's poles, gathering information about solar flares and atmospheric conditions in space.
"So we have two space vehicles, and they'll be traveling in very near proximity. This provides two nearby readings and enables us to determine whether something is speeding up and slowing down, moving about, or switching on and off," Miles stated.
Experts believe this mission may aid in safeguarding satellites, space travelers, and electrical networks against solar disturbances.
