Right before EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025, Sonex Aircraft has stated that it is currently taking complete kit reservations for its latest model Highwing The company states that the performance and maneuverability have satisfied their design goals, leading them to ask the 71 current kit reservation holders to submit their complete orders. Now, this chance is available to all.
For individuals who aren't yet prepared to make a full commitment, Sonex continues to take new, refundable $500 deposit reservations for kits. The company intends to start shipping the kits by the end of this year.
Initial Flight Data
While flight testing The testing will proceed throughout the autumn, with early findings from the prototype showing positive outcomes, as stated by the company. The plane features shortened, acrobatic wingtips, and all data was obtained using the UL Power UL350iS engine.

Sonex points out that these figures—especially climbing and cruising—were attained using a propeller that might benefit from additional pitch length. The group is collaborating with Sensenich and UL Power to enhance the propeller, anticipating improved cruise velocities once it's fine-tuned, particularly at elevated altitudes.
Regarding performance, Sonex notes no unexpected issues, characterizing the Highwing as "sharp, sturdy, and reliable."
Weight, Balance, and MOSAIC
The tailwheel aircraft prototype includes two 10-inch Dynon SkyView displays but has not yet been equipped with additional fuel tanks, and now weighs slightly less than 820 pounds. Sonex lists this as the "Basic Empty Weight" for the acrobatic setup. Owners can expect final weights to reach 850 pounds or higher, based on factors such as engine selection, painting, and cabin details.
