LA PORTE CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Moments after someone on Union School's grounds holds up a gun – whether genuine or not – the staff is notified. This is achieved through software with ZeroEyes Inc . collaborates with existing security cameras. It identifies the firearm, notifies school personnel, ZeroEyes team members, and nearby police authorities.
"Armed with this data, rather than reacting at the front entrance, scanning every single room, and hunting for something—you're fully aware of their last known location, the person you're seeking, and the type of weapon involved," stated Rob Carter, Director of Sales at ZeroEyes.
The Union Community School District has been utilizing it for all of their cameras since March.
It was initially included in the school's bond proposal from last year. Although the vote did not succeed, the school board decided to proceed with it regardless.
"I believe that due to the high level of gun violence, particularly school-related incidents across the country, including here in our state, we decided that even though we haven't faced specific problems within our district, this would be an additional preventive step to ensure the safety of our students and staff," stated John Howard, superintendent of the Union Community School District.
On Friday, additional school administrators had the opportunity to discover further advantages of the technology – a system that is continuously supervised around the clock by a group of specialists.
“Our software is looking for one thing and one thing only and that’s brandished firearms, each and every one of those alerts are verified by former military and former law enforcement professionals,” said Carter.
An approach for individuals who may have encountered or learned about such situations to avoid the most severe consequences.
