Electric Vehicle Expo CEO Speaks Boldly on Future — And Elon Musk's Role

Jumat, 18 Juli 2025, Juli 18, 2025

The Electrify Expo, an event focused on electric vehicles, took place at Marymoor Park in Redmond, Washington, on July 12 and 13.

I got to drive through the park and various streets in a Tesla Model 3 autonomous vehicle, a Cybertruck, and a Porsche Taycan.

Among all the driving experiences with cars, the autonomous-driven Model 3 from Tesla caught my interest the most.

I was concentrated on handling the task of operating a vehicle on a bright, warm day in the Pacific Northwest, with a photographer and an event staff member observing my actions closely.

Next, leaning back and observing the vehicle operate autonomously allowed me to unwind and take in my surroundings, completely losing focus on the car's technical details.

Following the event, I got some interesting feedback from Electrify Expo CEO BJ Birtwell regarding the outlook for the electric vehicle sector, featuring direct opinions on Elon Musk and Tesla. ( TSLA ) .

In an email conversation, when questioned about the future of electric vehicles, Birtwell expressed a firm opinion.

He stated, 'The uptake of electric vehicles follows the typical S-shaped pattern seen with any groundbreaking technology.' 'Pioneering users were among the first,' he mentioned, 'and the broader group of early adopters is currently taking shape, with complete market acceptance expected next.'

I'm referring generally to the shift toward electricity," he further explained. "This includes battery-powered vehicles, plug-in hybrid models, and traditional hybrids. While not every individual will opt for fully electric vehicles, I anticipate they will eventually surpass gasoline cars in new vehicle sales within the next decade.

Still, gasoline-powered vehicles will not disappear from the U.S., and they shouldn't. Buyers should be allowed to choose their preferred type of vehicle.

CEO of Electric Vehicle Expo discusses infrastructure, Tesla, and Elon Musk

Birtwell highlighted that something is currently underway.

There's no doubt that nearly all leading car manufacturers have pledged to embrace electric vehicles in one way or another," he stated. "The transition is occurring. The real issue is how quickly the supporting systems will keep pace since the technological advancements are surpassing the current infrastructure at this moment.

"Institutional development must keep pace, and political obstacles should be removed," Birtwell further stated. "Infrastructure has to evolve, and political barriers need to step aside," Birtwell also mentioned. "The system requires advancement, and politics must not interfere," Birtwell concluded. "It’s time for infrastructure to improve, and political issues should take a back seat," Birtwell remarked. "Progress demands better infrastructure, with politics needing to retreat from the scene," Birtwell noted.

Switching focus to Tesla and Elon Musk, Birtwell delivered an important remark.

He stated, 'Tesla goes beyond just one individual. It consists of over 140,000 dedicated engineers, factory employees, service technicians, and designers—individuals not involved in politics. They are creators. They are solution-finders.'

From what I've seen, Tesla workers are among the most determined, faithful, and purpose-focused individuals I've encountered," Birtwell added. "They possess an extraordinary amount of perseverance and dedication to promoting eco-friendly transport.

CEO of Electrify Expo discusses Tesla and Elon Musk, draws comparisons to Steve Jobs

Birtwell states that he doesn't support every statement or action made by Tesla's founder, Elon Musk. He clearly expresses his stance.

"Regardless of whether you like him or despise him, excluding Tesla from the electric vehicle discussion isn't merely impractical—it's historically inaccurate," he wrote.

He's the Steve Jobs of the automotive sector. He pushed innovation so far that almost every other manufacturer had to broaden their range of products," Birtwell added. "Still, electric vehicles have come to a stage where the trend surpasses any single individual or corporation. Even if Tesla vanished today, the shift toward electricity would keep moving forward—and that's positive.

Birtwell provides further comments about Tesla and his perspective on the future—and his purpose.

Let's get one thing straight," he stated. "This discussion would not have taken place without Tesla. Whether you admire Elon Musk or dislike him, he altered the course of the automotive sector. That's simply how things are.

Ongoing political and public policy conflicts have created instability for Tesla, Elon Musk, and the electric vehicle sector.

Birtwell addresses that fact.

Lately, a major nationwide protest organization requested that we exclude Tesla from our events," he stated. "We refuse. Freedom of choice is important. Availability is significant too. And Electrify Expo will keep supporting this stance.
