Trump Snubs Congress: Democrats Seethe Over 'Banana' Stalemate

WASHINGTON — Moderate Democratic supporters of Israel are concerned that the Trump administration might be losing whatever remaining good will they have among centrist Democrats in Congress by delaying the scheduling of congressional briefings about this weekend’s military actions against Iran.

However, several members from the centrist faction of the party are seeking a means to support Israel in the conflict, arguing that the situation became even more complex after the administration postponed informing Congress about the strikes.

I am not sure how to interpret this," Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) stated to Raw Story. "Perhaps they are concealing themselves.

Despite the fact that the Trump administration was not concealing itself, numerous Democrats believe they are the ones who are hidden.

Confusion on Capitol Hill

As President Donald Trump’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill” faces uncertainty in the Senate, legislators throughout Capitol Hill scheduled significant blocks of time for closed-door sessions with Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley on Tuesday. These meetings aimed at gaining detailed insights into recent airstrikes conducted in Iran.

However, by early afternoon, rumors spread throughout Capitol Hill that the briefings had been delayed.

I find this concerning," Houlahan stated. "Moreover, it seems even more troubling that the Speaker of the House appears indifferent about it, which leaves me quite astonished. I am hopeful that sensible individuals will realize this is unacceptable.

However, Houlahan and other Democrats aren't getting their hopes up.

Democratic skepticism regarding the delayed security briefings partly arises because the Trump administration chose to circumvent established procedures. They briefed only Republican congressional leaders prior to the military actions against Iran and informed Democratic leaders solely afterward.

“That’s incredibly crazy,” Houlahan stated. “It’s absolutely bonkers.”

In issues related to American intelligence secrets, maintaining nonpartisan approaches has typically defined the norm. At least until recently.

In Congress, the duty of maintaining these confidentialities falls upon the 'gang of eight' — consisting of the four party leaders from both houses of Capitol Hill as well as the leading Republicans and Democrats on the Intelligence Committees from each chamber of Congress.

Reports indicate that the Trump administration informed Republican congressional leaders prior to the strikes taking place and notified Democratic leaders afterward, which has caused Democrats across the board to protest vigorously.

It’s akin to the collapse of the governmental structure," Lofgren stated. "The so-called group of eight has always been tight-lipped as part of their duty, and this has never failed before. This instance would not be an exception. Frankly, it’s preposterous.
