DETROIT, Mich. (WILX) — An initiative involving Michigan State University and Apple is equipping another cohort of students with the expertise required for success in the technology sector.
On Thursday, they marked the completion of their training in Detroit City.
"The academy is transforming my life," stated graduate Hamza Crichlow.
Crichlow works as a respiratory therapist. To simplify the work for his fellow professionals, he developed an application. This software creates suggested patient care plans using patients' medical information.
“Many fatalities in America result from medical mistakes,” he stated. “The aim of my app is to reduce that as much as possible.”
Crichlow is among the 125 individuals graduating from the Apple Developer Academy, equipped with digital skills to tackle real-world issues.
For her colleague, Tamera Middlebrooks, it's all about protecting the environment.
It will focus on eco-friendly shipping solutions for smaller enterprises," she explained to News 10. "The main idea is to reduce the ecological harm typically associated with the shipping sector.
The academy, a collaborative effort between Michigan State University, Apple, and the Gilbert Family Foundation, runs a 10-week course focused on teaching design, programming, and entrepreneurial skills.
The MSU President, Kevin Guskiewicz, stated that it is the efforts of the academy students that achieve the university's mission to provide education across all areas.
"That's a component of our educational framework at Michigan State, and this serves as merely one of numerous instances showcasing our commitment," he stated.
The group graduating on Thursday is the fourth set of students to finish this program.
