MONROE, La. (KNOE) — St. Francis Medical Center has achieved a significant medical breakthrough by becoming the first facility in Northeast Louisiana to adopt advanced robotic surgery technology.
The hospital boasts two da Vinci 5 surgical robots, according to St. Francis officials, marking significant progress in healthcare delivery.
It is claimed that these robots employ artificial intelligence to aid doctors, enabling tinier cuts, decreased reliance on painkillers, quicker recuperation periods, and cutting down healing time by several weeks.
Authorities state that despite being driven by cutting-edge technology, surgeons will retain complete control throughout operations. According to them, the da Vinci systems provide greater precision in movements and enhance a surgeon’s capability to perceive and assess bodily tissues via force feedback mechanisms.
The Local Market President of St. Francis Medical Center, Dr. Thomas Gullatt, states, "We believe this will mark considerable progress in patient treatment. Shorter operation durations result in reduced infection rates, lesser complications, and improved outcomes."
Officials from St. Francis indicate that the robots will be utilized for various surgical operations including those related to the prostate, kidneys, lungs, among others, covering both cancerous and non-cancerous cases.
Dr. Paul Murphy from St. Francis stated, "The force feedback enables us to apply less pressure and minimize tissue damage. This leads to improved results for our patients."
Officials from St. Francis state they intend to start utilizing the robots over the coming fortnight.
