WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett stepped down from the contest to lead the influential House Oversight Committee as the top Democrat, signaling the Dallas Democrat’s second setback in her bid for advancement within the congressional leadership hierarchy.
Crockett affirmed her choice to withdraw from the competition in a message sent to The Texas Tribune late Monday.
On Tuesday morning, House Democrats selected Representative Robert Garcia as the ranking member for the 47-member committee. In this contest, Garcia emerged victorious over his last opponent, Representative Stephen Lynch. winning the support of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.
