JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The head of the Democratic Party in the Missouri House of Representatives always felt she didn’t conform to the typical political image.
I ran a business and wanted to explore methods to support politicians, campaigns, or candidates and understand how my abilities could align with the political sphere," State Representative Ashley Aune from Platte County stated. "This led me to connect with people who later encouraged me to seek public office.
Aune, who was born in Colorado and brought up in Kansas, embodies a segment of northern Kansas City.
In her third term, she has swiftly climbed the ladder within the Democratic Party in the House, initially serving as the Minority Whip before being chosen by her peers to lead as the Minority Leader.
I offer a well-rounded viewpoint," she stated during an interview with Nexstar Missouri. "One thing I believe is often missing here is the readiness to find middle ground or to understand another person's experiences.
Regarding legislator term limits, when questioned, she mentioned both advantages and disadvantages.
“Aune mentioned, ‘While I recognize that deep-seated bureaucratic practices can result in corruption, term limits—at least those established in Missouri—mean that individuals with the greatest experience and influence within these walls, due to their long tenure, tend to be the staff members and lobbyists.’”
