Meta has entered into four new clean energy pacts, ensuring extra solar and wind power for its extensive data center activities, the companies announced Thursday .
The deals between the tech firm and developer Invenergy will pave the way for initiatives across three American states, providing Meta with an extra 791 megawatts of power.
The initiatives in Ohio, Arkansas, and Texas are anticipated to strengthen Meta's operations, expand their data centers, and advance their clean energy objectives, according to a statement released by Invenergy on Thursday.
"We are intensely focused on achieving our AI goals, and for this, we require clean and dependable energy," stated Urvi Parekh, who leads Global Energy at Meta.
This comes as part of a series of energy agreements that Meta and other tech firms have entered into recently to address the rising power needs of their AI systems and computational activities.
Earlier this month, Meta revealed a 20-year agreement with Constellation Energy, allowing them to use nuclear power for advancements in AI and other technological innovations.
Under the terms of the deal, Meta announced that it will increase production at Constellation’s Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois, a facility that had been scheduled for closure in 2017 due to economic difficulties.
Under the new agreement, the clean energy production at the center will rise by 30 megawatts, anticipated to save 1,100 local jobs and produce $13.5 million in yearly taxes.
Meta is progressively shifting its attention towards artificial intelligence, a field that demands an extraordinary level of energy for both development and operation, as well as powering data centers. The firm has stated that they anticipate their expenditures will almost double this year due to this shift.
