LaVon Bracy Davis, who graduated from an HBCU, now finds herself facing a very interesting Her opponent in the Florida State Senate election is her brother, Randolph Bracy. The position, representing part of the greater Orlando area, became vacant after the death of long-serving State Senator Geraldine Thompson earlier this year.
LaVon Bracy Davis is an attorney who obtained her bachelor's degree from Howard University and her Doctor of Jurisprudence from Florida A&M University College of Law. She currently holds office as a member of the Florida House of Representatives. She has made public commitments to build upon Thompson’s heritage by concentrating on voter legislation, employment generation, and increased salaries for public school educators.
Her sibling and rival, Randolph Bracy, has extensive experience in political matters. As a past state senator whose agenda focused on enhancing workplaces, providing more accessible housing, improving transit systems, and broadening mental healthcare provisions, Randolph Bracy formerly contested Thompson’s position as state senator back in 2024. However, he was unsuccessful at unseating the incumbent at that time. Currently, he aims to contest for the same role once again, this time facing off against his own sister.
To add an extra layer of intrigue to the race, the pair's mother, LaVon Bracy, has declared her backing for one of them. Demonstrating strong loyalty to her daughter, LaVon Bracy Davis, she took on the role of managing her campaign. Her endorsement was recently highlighted through a social media update.
The sibling rivalry is merely one part of a packed and contested race. Former U.S. Congressman Alan Grayson, recognized for his provocative statements, is vying for the Democratic nomination as well. Adding more complexity to an already competitive field is another contender, attorney Coretta Anthony-Smith.
The victor in the Democratic primary, which is largely considered the crucial contest in this Democrat-leaning district, will go up against Republican Willie Montague in the general election set for September. The primary elections are scheduled for June 24th.
