FORT PAYNE, Ala. ( WAFF ) - Dispatchers in DeKalb County are set to receive an upgrade that leadership hopes will enhance overall safety for all involved.
Michael Posey, who serves as the EMA Director and chairperson of the DeKalb County Communication Governance Committee, spoke with WAFF’s Kalee Kniess about the upcoming launch of their new Computer-Aided Dispatch system, commonly referred to as CAD, which is scheduled for deployment this August.
CAD isn’t brand new.
Numerous other agencies have been using it for many years now.
However, this will be the first instance of DeKalb County having it.
Posey mentioned that he is genuinely thrilled about this new addition.
He mentioned that CAD immediately transfers data from a dispatcher's computer directly to the devices utilized daily by law enforcement officers and various emergency personnel.
Whatever a 911 operator enters into the system can instantly be viewed by emergency personnel.
This indicates that the details you provide to 911 dispatchers in times of crisis are relayed to them with maximum speed.
"We can offer enhanced protection for those responding, improved services for the community, and more effective support for our community members," stated Posey.
He mentioned that this would assist them in reaching their objective of maintaining the safety within the community.
Essentially, our primary objective is to deliver top-notch services to our residents," stated Posey. "This remains the foremost aim for every public safety officer and staff member within the county.
Posey mentioned that he had a meeting today with the remaining members of the County Communication Governance Committee to discuss further details regarding the implementation plan. According to him, CAD is scheduled to go live on August 1st.
