Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - On Tuesday evening, Dan Gagliardo secured the GOP nomination for Amherst Town Supervisor after winning the Republican primary. He will proceed with his campaign leading up to November when he will go head-to-head against current Deputy Town Supervisor Shawn Lavin in the general election.
Following the support from the Amherst Republicans, Gagliardo showed gratitude towards his family, contributors, and members of his campaign staff.
“We must begin using ‘we,’ ‘us,’ and ‘them’ for everyone,” stated Gagliardo in his acceptance speech on Tuesday evening. “This is what we need to do. Remember, we form the larger party.”
Gagliardo emphasizes his platform as being "purple," reaffirming his passion for improving a community where he has spent his whole life. His primary goals include openness, financial prudence, and advancement for Amherst. Key areas of concentration for him encompass the Boulevard Mall, replacing streetlights, Station Twelve, and the Westwood Country Club.
"This is merely the initial phase. We're moving it ahead to November, and I'm anticipating the battle with Shawn," Gagliardo went on to say.
Regarding Lavin, he has served as a member of the Amherst Town Board since 2017, and he made his official campaign announcement way back in February.
"I'm looking forward to sharing my message with voters when it comes to November, and I believe it will turn into quite a compelling and close contest," Lavin told WBEN during an interview.
He believes that his prior experience working in local government and serving in the military will set him apart from Gagliardo as they head into the general election.
