NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Curtis Sliwa has emerged victorious in the Republican primary election for New York City mayor.
Sliwa, who founded the nonprofit Guardian Angels, ran unopposed. He ran for mayor in 2021 and lost to current Mayor Eric Adams.
Sliwa issued the subsequent statement: X :
“Regardless of what occurs today, keep your hopes up. The disorder and dishonesty witnessed here do not mark the conclusion of the narrative. This November, we have the chance to select a superior direction, one that involves reclaiming our city. Throughout my life, I've stood alongside New Yorkers in their struggles. My aim is to become the mayor who represents the people.”
In 1979, Sliwa established the Guardian Angels to address "the growing concerns over crime and public safety," as stated on his campaign site. This organization monitors locations such as subway systems throughout New York City.
His agenda encompasses topics such as ensuring public safety, enhancing transit security, overhauling Rikers Island, addressing housing concerns, and improving educational systems. He has received endorsements from the Republican party organizations across all five boroughs and the New York City Organization of Public Service Retirees.
Now, Sliwa will go up against independent contenders Eric Adams and Jim Walden in November.
