Samsung SDI will display its range of batteries designed for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems (ESS) starting this Wednesday at an exhibition in Munich, Germany. The company aims to attract international clients as the battery sector faces a downturn.

Samsung SDI announced on Tuesday that the firm would section off its exhibit space into five areas highlighting Samsung’s SBB 1.5, artificial intelligence data centers, technology innovation hubs, battery solutions, and initiatives toward achieving net-zero emissions at InterBattery Europe in Messe, Munich over a span of three days concluding on Friday.

The Interbattery Europe is organized by the Korea Battery Industry Association, Coex and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (Kotra) and is part of the Smarter E Europe, an alliance of exhibitions for the energy industry.

Samsung SDI plans to showcase various batteries and associated technologies such as the U8A1, their latest high-density battery designed for use in uninterruptible power supplies intended for AI data centers; the SBB 1.5, which is an Energy Storage System housed within a 20-foot shipping container; energy-dense prismatic cells; 46-millimeter diameter cylindrical batteries; all-solid-state batteries; along with thermal propagation technology.

The firm will also showcase its record of battery life cycles and raw ingredient recycling efforts made as part of its environmental and social governance policy.

Samsung SDI stated in an earlier press release that they would take part in Interbattery Europe as part of their international growth strategy. According to the announcement made on Tuesday, representatives from the firm plan to engage with worldwide clients during this event. Additionally, Samsung SDI revealed that they will deliver a keynote address at Battery Day Europe. This conference, which is another initiative managed by Kotra under the umbrella of Smarter E Europe, aims to bring together industry leaders for discussions and presentations.

In this exhibit, we will present cutting-edge batteries designed for the AI age, which boast innovation and heightened safety," stated a representative from Samsung SDI. "Through this sophisticated battery tech, our objective is to propel the market to new heights.

In the first quarter, Samsung SDI shifted from profitability in the previous year to posting an operating loss exceeding 400 billion won ($278.3 million), accompanied by a 34.9% decline in sales compared to the same period last year.

The firm blamed the shortfall, missing industry forecasts, on adjustments made to customer inventories within the electric vehicle and power tools sectors along with a downturn during the off-season in the energy storage systems market.

Samsung SDI anticipates a rebound in the second quarter due to expanded electric vehicle incentives and environmental regulations in Europe, along with automakers completing their stock corrections.
