MONROE, La. (KNOE) — The University of Louisiana at Monroe has recently brought aboard Dr. Nick Bruno as the interim president.

Dr. Nick Bruno served as the president of ULM for a decade prior to his retirement in 2020.

During his tenure as president, Dr. Bruno brought the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) to ULM’s campus, along with new student housing and the Alumni Center.

Dr. Bruno mentions that his present objective is to address the University’s budget shortfall for the fiscal year 2026, which reportedly stands at approximately $5 million.

The university administrators indicate that Dr. Bruno is examining the current financial situation to tackle any potential problems.

Dr. Bruno states his intention to facilitate a seamless handover for the new president.

"We've introduced something we refer to as a cash burn report. Each week, I have clarity on both incoming and outgoing funds. Preliminarily, it seems like there might be a cash shortfall at present. My objective is to determine our current financial position, identify necessary steps to achieve equilibrium and stability within the budget, and subsequently draft the budget plan for the upcoming fiscal year," explained Dr. Bruno.

Bruno expresses his hope to enhance the university's financial situation by June.
