After implementing his tariff plan, President Donald Trump of the United States has urged Chairman Jerome Powell of the Federal Reserve to reduce interest rates.
Trump said Powell should stop playing politics because this is the perfect time to cut interest rates.
In a post on his social media, President Truth stated that Powell is consistently tardy but needs to improve his reputation regarding punctuality this time.
Trump stated, "Now would be an ideal moment for Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to decrease interest rates. He is typically 'late,' but this presents him with an opportunity to reshape his reputation swiftly."
Energy prices have decreased, interest rates have dropped, inflation has fallen, and eggs are now 69% cheaper—all within just two months. Additionally, job numbers are up, marking a significant victory for America. Cut interest rates further, Jerome, and cease engaging in political games.
On Friday, Powell stated that Trump’s tariff program is expected to result in increased inflation and reduced economic growth in the U.S.
Powell stated that the Federal Reserve aims to ensure that price hikes remain short-lived.
He stated that the tariffs along with their effects on the economy and inflation are "much more substantial than anticipated."
Powell indicated that the import duties are "very likely" to result in "a minimum of a short-term increase in inflation," and he further stated that "there is a possibility that these impacts might last longer."
