The big picture: Trump's comments mark the first time he's provided a loose end date for the departure of SpaceX and Tesla CEO Musk.
- So far, the president has mostly avoided setting a deadline for his friend and advisor—who is set to depart—to leave. special government employee who can only operate for 130 days each year.
Driving the news: Musk plans to remain "for a limited duration," however, he'll "eventually want to return to his enterprise," Trump stated to journalists aboard Air Force One. "Subsequently, the secretaries will assume full control."

Zoom out: Vice President JD Vance mentioned previously on Thursday that Musk will stay as "friend and an adviser" to the White House and declared that rumors about the CEO departing from the administration soon were "fake news."
