"The markets will surge, the stocks will soar, and the nation will thrive," he stated when questioned about the economy before departing from the White House for one of his golf clubs in Florida.
On Thursday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell over 1,600 points as U.S. stocks spearheaded a global selling spree following the announcement from the Republican President regarding tariffs imposed on many countries, causing an unprecedented jolt similar to what was witnessed during the height of the COVID-19 crisis.
On Wednesday, he declared a base tariff of 10% on imported goods, with significantly higher taxation rates applying specifically to items coming from particular nations such as China and those originating within the European Union.
