An email requests that former employees of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), who were either dismissed or placed on paid leave, come back to their jobs.
The Washington Post reported On Thursday, the request was made just a few hours after employees were locked out of the governmental buildings.
However, mere hours after staff members were let go, Barclay Butler, who had recently been appointed as the agency’s chief operating officer, requested from senior FDA officials a list of employees to continue working over the following two months. This was revealed through an email acquired by The Washington Post.

"If you face difficulties with staff unwilling to work, we advise you to choose another team member who can assist you during this transitional period," stated FDA official Melanie Keller in an emailed message Wednesday that was acquired by the Post.
Thousands of government employees Have been let go, along with individuals at the FDA. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) stated that there is an aim to reduce the workforce by 20,000 employees across all health-related organizations.
The deputy commissioner for operations and chief operating officer, Barclay Butler, requested of each Center/Office Director as per the report, to pinpoint individuals who ought to return, even if only for 60 days, throughout the transitional phase.
"As a point of clarification, I'm requesting only the essential staff needed for support throughout the 60-day transition period," Barclay emphasized.
The individuals mentioned might include staff responsible for "coordinating travel and logistics for international inspections; maintaining records of working hours; information technology support; managing user fees paid by industry to the FDA; lab technicians; financial administration; as well as various other departments."
The FDA is not the sole department where this occurrence has taken place. Centers for Disease Control aimed to bring back employees, while the Department of Energy requested nuclear staff Reports showed they also plan to return. NPR reported Nearly 6,000 employees from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) were brought back to their jobs following a directive from an independent federal agency.
