At CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the actor took a moment to ask the audience to observe a silent tribute for his "close friend." This unexpected visit by Cruise aimed to generate more buzz for his forthcoming movie, "Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning," which was being showcased to an assembly of cinema operators.
"I'm unable to express how greatly I admire his work, and I felt so thankful and privileged when he became part of 'Top Gun' and then returned for 'Top Gun: Maverick.' It would truly be lovely if we could share some time together since he adored cinema and contributed immensely to our lives. Let’s remember all the fantastic moments we shared with him," Cruise stated as reported. Deadline .

In the 1986 blockbuster film, Kilmer portrayed Lt. Tom "Ice Man" Kazansky opposite Cruise as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, the ace fighter pilot.
The duo came back together for the 2022 sequel of the film, which Cruise described as "emotionally charged."
I simply wanted to mention that it was quite an emotional experience," he shared with Jimmy Kimmel during his late-night television program in 2023.
