At CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the actor took a moment to ask the audience to join him in a silent tribute to his "close friend." This unexpected appearance by Cruise aimed to generate more buzz for his forthcoming film, "Mission: Impossible - The Final Showdown," which he was there to promote.
"I am unable to express how greatly I admire his work, and how deeply thankful and proud I felt when he became part of 'Top Gun' and then returned later for 'Top Gun: Maverick.' It would truly be delightful if we could share some time together since he adored cinema and contributed immensely to each one of us. In the 1986 blockbuster, Kilmer portrayed Lt. Tom "Ice Man" Kazansky opposite Cruise as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, the daring fighter pilot.
