Approximately 1,200 protests are scheduled to occur throughout the U.S. this Saturday as part of what organizers claim will be the biggest one-day rally yet against the president. Donald Trump And his billionaire advisor Elon Musk as the administration has swiftly moved to instill a conservative mark on the federal government since its inception.
More than 150 organizations have come together to form this initiative. "Hands Off!" protests , set to occur at various sites including Washington, D.C.'s National Mall, state capitol buildings, and multiple venues spanning all 50 states. The event is being organized by groups such as civil rights organizations and labor unions. LGBTQ+ advocates Moreover, individuals globally, including those in London, have started demonstrating in support of American citizens. The group includes veterans and election activists.
Ezra Levin, who co-founded Indivisible—one of the organizations orchestrating Saturday’s events—stated: “This massive protest is conveying a strong message to Musk, Trump, Republican members of Congress, and all the marching supporters of MAGA.” We don't want them controlling our democracy. In our communities, in our schools, among our friends, and beside our neighbors."

The White House responded stating, “President Trump’s standpoint is straightforward: he remains committed to safeguarding Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid for those who qualify as beneficiaries. Conversely, the Democratic Party supports providing Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare benefits to individuals who are not legally authorized residents of the U.S., an action they argue would lead to financial ruin for these programs and severely impact elderly Americans.”
Protesters are voicing their opposition to measures taken by the Trump administration, such as dismissing numerous federal workers, closing Social Security Administration locations, halting agency activities, carrying out immigration expulsions, rolling back transgender rights, and cutting funds for healthcare programs.
As the freshly appointed head of the Department of Government Efficiency, Musk has played a crucial role in the government’s initiative to reduce costs. He asserts that under his guidance, significant savings have accrued for taxpayers.
When he resumed his term on January 20, Trump quickly got to work implementing multiple executive orders and initiatives that opponents claim sync with Project 2025, a far-right plan aimed at restructuring governmental operations and consolidating presidential authority. These decisive steps were greeted with enthusiasm from his backers, who view them as crucial for disrupting entrenched liberal policies.
Nevertheless, many of Trump's efforts to reform policies have been impeded by legal challenges claiming that he has overstepped his constitutional authority through his initiatives.
Groups supporting Palestine, opposed to both Israel’s resumed military operations in Gaza and the Trump administration’s efforts to suppress campus demonstrations, will join the proceedings in Washington. As stated by organizers of these protests, their intention is to carry out a demonstration through marching.
Protesters have staged national demonstrations against either Trump or Musk multiple times since the new government took office.
Nevertheless, the resistance movement hasn't managed to amass a participation level similar to the Women's March of 2017, which followed Trump’s initial inauguration, or the widespread Black Lives Matter demonstrations that erupted across multiple cities post George Floyd’s death in 2020.
