A firefighter from Spokane dramatically rescued a child’s life during his family holiday in Mexico.
According to the Spokane Fire Department, Captain Kevin Smith noticed some individuals in distress on the beach from his vantage point at a hotel restaurant with an ocean view. Realizing that someone was struggling in the water, he hurried down to the shore to assist them.
Captain Smith found out that a woman with her two kids had been pulled into the ocean and were fighting to keep their heads above water.
When Captain Smith arrived at the shore, he saw the mother being saved, but soon noticed a toddler struggling in the wave break. He immediately plunged into the turbulent waters to rescue the unresponsive child.
Once the child was brought securely to land, Captain Smith promptly initiated rescue breathing, and the child soon became conscious again.
The SFD indicates that another witness managed to save the second child.
The San Francisco Fire Department (SFD) stated on Facebook, "Firefighters remain always ready for action. Regardless of whether they are actively serving, have retired, or are enjoying time off, they step up whenever required."
