Skybound Entertainment, the influential media conglomerate known for worldwide successes such as "The Walking Dead" and "Invincible," has appointed Skarphéðinn Guðmundsson as the CEO of its Icelandic arm, Sagafilm. This selection represents a key step in Skybound’s larger plan to expand into Europe and paves the way for an exciting new era in the firm's international narrative endeavors.
Guðmundsson boasts extensive experience in Iceland’s media sector, where he spent 12 years as the programming director at RÚV Television and six years at Stöð 2. Additionally, he has a history in cultural journalism with Morgunblaðið.
"Iceland’s leading production company is Sagafilm, where I’ve been working for numerous years,” stated Guðmundsson. “We have collaborated on various award-winning projects including TV dramas like 'Night Shift,’ ‘The Girls’ and 'The Minister,’ along with entertainment programs and documentaries such as 'Out of Thin Air.’ It has been fascinating to watch Sagafilm transform into an internationally renowned innovator, and I am excited about contributing to its continued expansion alongside Skybound’s forward-thinking strategy.”
In 2023, Skybound purchased Sagafilm, marking significant involvement in European media creation. This move comes after several calculated steps taken by the firm, such as buying game developer 5th Planet Games, establishing Skybound Japan to capitalize on the anime and manga sectors, and putting resources into Scenario42—a French studio known for producing top-rated show "Polar Park" in France.

Sagafilm’s forthcoming projects encompass the Swedish thriller "VAKA," the romantic comedy "Everybody Loves Horses," the Finnish-Icelandic crime series "Hildur," and the Icelandic comedy "Weekend Dads."
Guðmundsson will formally assume control in early summer.
