Sir Elton John Expresses Distress Over Health Struggles Impacting Life With Young Sons

Sir Elton John has shared an update about his vision impairment and how it affects his personal life.

Last July, he developed a serious ocular infection This resulted in him being blind in his right eye and having 'limited vision' in his left.

In an interview with a journalist from The Times newspaper, Sir Elton stated: "Although I can see you, I am unable to watch television; I cannot read either. Additionally, I miss not being able to clearly see my sons play rugby and soccer."

And it has indeed been quite a taxing period since I am accustomed to absorbing everything.

Regarding the impact of his visual impairment, he stated: "This is very troubling. It can be emotionally taxing, yet one must adapt since I am fortunate to lead the life I do."

'I still have my amazing family, and I can still glimpse things through this [left eye], so you tell yourself, "Just keep going."'

Speaking previously about his battle with blindness , the creator of "Your Song" referred to himself for The Guardian newspaper as 'always an optimist'.

"I've had my share of gloomy days due to my poor eyesight, but then I remind myself how fortunate I am," he stated.

Sir Elton said he now has 'a new appreciation' for visually impaired individuals, though he still hopes that his vision will get better.

'I have overcome addiction, dealt with health problems, and am able to get back up and move forward.'

At the same time, the celebrity, who first faced addiction issues in the '70s, has admitted lately that if he had the chance, he would advise his youthful self to ‘avoid drugs altogether.’

In an interview on Smooth Radio with host Kate Garraway, he stated, “Find joy in your work, as I have. And never touch drugs.”

'I mean, I used drugs. They brought me down, but after recovering, I had to embark on a journey to transform into who I am today.'

But I didn't want to endure all of that, yet it brought me to my current situation.

Echoing his long-held perspective, he admitted that he feels "incredibly fortunate to have music in [his] life."

'Ever since I can remember, music has been present throughout my life. Whether I was high, low, feeling blue, I always stepped out and created music.'

'I documented my journey, went on tour, and it rescued me. Yet, it almost shattered me, but ultimately, it saved me.'

Sir Elton, who has sold over 300 million records globally, kickstarted his music career at the young age of 22.

The Grammy-winning artist has maintained sobriety for thirty years now after struggling with alcohol and substance addiction in earlier times.

When faced with the stresses of being famous, he turned to an addictive behavior, which was coupled with a six-year battle against bulimia.
