TEAYS VALLEY, WV (WOWK) – According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, a ransomware attack targeting a student's email account at Teays Valley Christian School was carried out by a perpetrator from another state.

The PCSO mentioned Facebook post In late March, students were informed that if they didn’t download a specific file, a "hit list" would be distributed using their name and email address.
According to the sheriff’s office, both the affected student and their family cooperated fully throughout the entire investigative process as authorities—including the WV Fusion Center—sought to identify the perpetrator. It has been reported that the individual's account was breached multiple times; specifically, access attempts originated from three distinct IP addresses over a span of approximately twenty minutes following the incident. Furthermore, every single personal file associated with the account appears to have been viewed almost instantaneously after these unauthorized accesses occurred.
The sheriff’s office stated that since a main suspect has been identified, they intend to proceed with criminal charges as they conclude their investigation.
