SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) - Shovels went into the ground for a new multimillion-dollar residential and mixed-use project in Santa Fe. The city mentioned that it has been tailored towards creative individuals.

The first phase of the Aspect Media Village commenced with the groundbreaking ceremony for Arthouse, a 129-unit apartment complex. According to developers and local authorities, this project spanning 21 acres aims to rejuvenate Santa Fe’s central district.
"One of the major hurdles in Santa Fe revolves around locating affordable housing, affecting both residents and visiting film crews with up to 20, 30, or even 50 individuals needing accommodation per production," explained Philip Gesue, who is the lead developer at Aspect Media Village.
The multi-purpose development will feature affordable residential units along with a film production facility, recording stages, and dining options, encompassing upgrades to current areas like the cinema.
The city announced plans to transform Santa Fe into an affordable and easily reachable center for individuals just starting out in the film sector. "To ensure that Santa Fe becomes a location with a varied and inclusive community of workers from all fields for years to come, addressing housing needs must be our top priority," stated Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber.
The construction is occurring across 21 out of the 60 acres previously occupied by the Santa Fe University of Art and Design, an institution that shut down in 2018.
The developers expect to finish the initial stage of this project within twelve months. There are 40 acres yet to be allocated. The City of Santa Fe continues to gather proposal submissions aimed at purchasing and redeveloping these parcels.
