The approval granted last Tuesday enables small enterprises to organize events without bearing the burden of expenses, paperwork, and regulations imposed on bigger venues.

The project was launched by the Entertainment Service Division along with the Office of Nighttime Economy.

“The new Limited Entertainment Permit is a significant step in supporting Sacramento’s creative economy,” said Tina Lee-Vogt, Manager of the Office of Nighttime Economy. “By simplifying the permitting process, we’re making it easier for businesses to host live entertainment while ensuring compliance with the City’s noise and occupancy standards. This initiative creates more opportunities for local artists and enhances the city’s social vibrancy.”

Companies with up to 299 occupants are permitted to host events as a supplementary activity, say authorities. These places may provide live music until 10 PM on weekdays and extend it till 11 PM during weekends. Additionally, restrictions for locations outside of downtown and midtown will ease off, enabling entertainment throughout the city.

Following the Sociable City Evaluation and the Sacramento Music Census expressing their requirement for events that foster development within the local and musical community, the permit was issued.

The municipal council plans to review the permit with the aim of establishing related charges.

The development of an online permitting system is underway to streamline application processes for both city employees and applicants. Additionally, public meetings will be held to assess noise regulations, as stated by the municipality.

The initiative is slated to commence in May.
