If you had doubts about the boxing match between Rashad Evans and Quinton Jackson taking place on April 12 as scheduled, now is the time to use your ticket.
On Friday, Evans took to social media to announce that the anticipated "boxing match" between the two ex-UFC light heavyweight title holders, initially declared for ICS Mania 1 scheduled to take place next week at The Pit in Albuquerque, New Mexico, will unfortunately not be happening.
In his video message, Evans did not explicitly assign blame, yet mentioned in his statement that due to certain unfulfilled contractual duties, they found themselves compelled to make the tough call to cancel the event. He noted that the choice was left up to legal representatives to resolve and expressed hope for the bout’s future rescheduling.
Evans didn’t mention if these problems stemmed from the promotional activities or came from his former opponent, “Rampage” Jackson, who turns 47 this coming June. The possibility of their boxing match had been circulating for several months prior to being officially announced just two months ago.
During Season 10 of "The Ultimate Fighter," Evans and Jackson's rivalry escalated as they faced off as opposing mentors. Their initial confrontation took place at the UFC 114 main event in Las Vegas, with Evans emerging victorious via unanimous decision.
In January 2022, Evans secured a unanimous decision victory over Gabriel Checco during the Eagle FC 44 event. His most recent bout before that took place in December 2019, where he was defeated by Fedor Emelianenko via knockout at Bellator 237.
