Patrick Wachsberger's Legendary Entertainment Unveils 'The Toxic Avenger': Peter Dinklage Starrs in Cannes-bound Epic

EXCLUSIVE Patrick Wachsberger and Legendary Entertainment’s new sales and production joint venture, numbered as 193, have announced their inaugural international sales project with "Peter Dinklage starrer." The Toxic Avenger which they plan to screen and showcase at next month’s Cannes market.

Oscar-winning Wachsberger, who previously served as the co-chairman of Lionsgate Motion Pictures Group, found his inaugural project nearby. The film, directed by Macon Blair, has been produced byLegendary.

The dark comedy, which serves as a remake of Lloyd Kaufman and Troma Entertainment’s iconic 1984 film of the same kind, features Peter Dinklage, Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Jacob Tremblay, Julia Davis, and Taylour Paige in leading roles. Macon was responsible for writing the script for this new version.

As we previously revealed, Terrifier Cineverse has scheduled an August 29 North American premiere for the film where Dinklage plays Winston Gooze, a disheartened custodian who becomes a mutated avenger called Toxie following a bizarre mishap. Equipped with his trademark broom, this unexpected champion fights against misfits, mobsters, and unethical business leaders while attempting to salvage his bond with his child.

The movie received mostly favorable reviews when it premiered at Fantastic Fest and Sitges towards the end of 2023 but was held back from wide release until recently. It is produced by Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Lloyd Kaufman, and Michael Herz. The executive producers are Andrew Pfeffer, Jay Ashenfelter, and Macon Blair.

Wachsberger and Legendary’s 193 plans to offer a mix including Legendary films, original content from 193, and titles from external partners. They intend to feature an expanded selection during the Cannes event. Notably, their initial recruitments included Wendy Reeds, who previously worked at Lionsgate, and Ashley Stern, formerly with Picture Perfect Federation.
