OXON HILL, Md. ( DC News Now A family-run enterprise in Prince George’s County is set to close after 37 years of operation within the Oxon Hill community.
Jason Gaister, who owns Linen World, describes the choice to shut down as bittersweet. He mentioned that his family had to close the business since the store couldn’t keep up with competition anymore.
"It boils down to several factors including competition from China and tariffs imposed by our own government. We're unable to increase our prices by 30 percent and therefore find ourselves incapable of competing, which ultimately led to this decision," explained Gaister.
The shop initially launched in 1988, offering products like bed linens along with various goods including towels, comforters, kitchen curtains, bath mats, and washcloths, among others.
William Ellis has remained a loyal customer for almost three decades.
I've known this spot for 25 years, and both my wife and I have been shopping here for many years. Additionally, I've lived in Fort Washington for over 44 years. The products they offer have consistently been of superior quality, and I'll be sorry to see them close down.
Jason Gaister states that it has been quite a journey for almost forty years, fostering enduring connections and offering essential services to this community.
“ It will surely impact our family, and it will pose a challenge for us, but we feel proud of what we managed to achieve."
Linen World plans to shut down permanently within two weeks once all stock is cleared out. Currently, everything in the shop is being offered at a 20% discount, with additional weekly reductions planned.
