COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH — The international visas for five students enrolled at Ohio State University have been canceled without any explanation provided.
A representative from Ohio State stated that the institution learned about a minimum of five students having their visas canceled.
"At present, we don't have any information regarding why this step was executed," stated the University in their announcement.
The representative additionally mentioned that the five students are still situated within the United States. All parties involved—including the students themselves, their legal representatives, and the educational institution—are contemplating subsequent actions.
A visa for entry permits individuals to come into the United States as full-time students at an approved college or university. Those who use this visa must enroll in a curriculum or educational program leading to a degree.
The alleged reason for the increased scrutiny of international students stems from the Trump administration employing fresh strategies and ambiguous rationales to encourage certain students to leave the U.S.
Ohio State isn't the sole institution affected. Across the nation, students who had their visas revoked have been instructed by the Department of Homeland Security to depart the U.S. without delay. This approach differs significantly from earlier procedures that permitted these individuals to remain and finish their education.
