Cleveland, OH (WOIO) - It has been reported that Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno referred to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer as a "Führer" earlier this week.
Moreno reportedly stated that Democrats are "sheep who blindly follow the leader Führer Schumer."
Senator Chuck Schumer addressed the remark during an appearance on CNN’s Inside Politics with Dana Bash.
Senator Schumer stated, "This behavior is vile, cruel, and unequivocally anti-Semitic. As the top-ranking Jewish public servant in our country, I can attest to the fact that many lives were lost during the Holocaust at the hands of an evil individual, Hitler, responsible for murdering six million Jews. His actions are deplorable and undeniably rooted in hatred towards Jews. These remarks should be withdrawn immediately. Yet, why aren’t we hearing condemnation from Republican leaders regarding this blatant anti-Semitism? This cruelty hits particularly hard among those whose families suffered under the atrocities committed by Hitler; countless members of my own kin perished due to such malevolence."
Senator Moreno's office likewise issued a statement indicating, "Senator Moreno merely highlighted how Senate Democrats consistently stand united with Chuck Schumer, yet the media distorts all remarks from Republican members. The responsibility for an apology lies with Chuck Schumer and the Democrats, considering their campaign employed over ten million dollars worth of advertisements containing racially prejudiced attacks against Senator Moreno and his family solely due to them being Colombian."
In the contest between ex-Senator Sherrod Brown and incumbent Senator Bernie Moreno, smear campaigns were widespread. Nevertheless, 19 News was unable to uncover any evidence linking these negative advertisements against Senator Moreno to Senator Schumer.
