Nevada residents must take action soon to get a Real ID because the deadline is drawing near. If they want to continue using their driver’s license or state ID for domestic air travel on commercial planes after May 7, 2025, they should not delay.
Hailey Foster of the Nevada DMV clarified that although obtaining a Real ID isn’t compulsory, it will become necessary for particular federal uses, including entry into protected federal sites such as military installations.
To find out whether you possess a Real ID, examine your Nevada driver’s license or identification card for a gold star located in the top-right corner. Its presence indicates that your ID meets the requirements.
For individuals requiring a Real ID, Foster provided the required procedures. Prospective applicants have to go to their local DMV office personally and bring multiple forms of documentation: evidence of identification, proof of any previous name alterations, verification of a Social Security number, along with two pieces of paperwork confirming Nevada residence. Typically, these documents mirror what was needed for acquiring an initial Nevada driver’s license or state-issued ID.
The cost for a Real ID is $8.50 for a driver’s license, $7.50 for an ID card, or $12.50 for a commercial license. Nevertheless, there is no extra fee when obtaining a Real ID alongside another license or ID update like a renewal.
Foster highlighted the significance of having all necessary paperwork ready beforehand to expedite the application procedure.
