NATO nations might react to the combined military drills of Russia and Belarus planned for autumn 2025, as mentioned by Lithuania’s Foreign Minister, KÄ™stutis Budrys, according to LRT. The alliance's reaction will hinge on various elements.
During the gathering of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels, Budrys highlighted that various steps had been slated based on observations of activities from both sides. This included monitoring movements within the ranks of Russian and Belarusian troops participating in drills, emphasizing that such developments wouldn’t slip under the radar.
The official stated that they wouldn’t delve into specifics regarding the Alliance’s response, yet stressed that NATO takes these matters very seriously.
The Lithuanian Foreign Minister highlighted that they would evaluate the kind of forces present, their scale, and where exactly they are located. NATO will then determine its deployment or reaction accordingly.
Russian and Belarussian military drills
In the previous autumn, Belarusian Defence Minister Viktor Khrenin declared that they would be conducting combined military drills called West-2025 together with Russia, scheduled to occur within Belarusian borders.
Andrii Demchenko, who speaks for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, proposed that during these drills, Russian and Belarusian troops could potentially move closer to the Ukrainian frontier.
Incidentally, lately, Germany started positioning its armored brigade in Lithuania as part of its approach to discourage Russia.
